Neonatal Brain Abscess: Case Report of 12 Cases and Literature Review

Objective: To investigate the etiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, and early identification methods of neonatal brain abscess. Methods: The baseline laboratory results 12 abscess cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results: manifestations fever, convulsion, lethargy. A small number them had respiratory circulatory failure. diagnosis made was based on imaging examination. All confirmed by cranial enhanced computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MRI). Blood cultures 9 positive, with Escherichia coli in 6 cases, ?-hemolytic Streptococcus 1 case, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Enterococcus faecium case. However, only 3 positive cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cultures. neonates treated antibiotic therapy upon admission, surgery. Among them, 4 recovered discharged, while remaining 8 discontinued their therapy. Conclusion: is most common pathogen our study. are atypical, prognosis poor. A case of penile abscess after amphetamine injection into the penis is reported. A 45-year-old male patient was successfully treated with surgical drainage and antibiotics. There were no 3-month consequences of treatment at follow-up, and the patient maintained potency, without any penile deformity.
